August 12 – Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk spoke to The Independent‘s Richard Jolly about his contract situation.
Van Dijk said, “There’s nothing new (on my contract). I think we should sign a few players depending on the duration of the season, but the club are working behind the scenes and I fully trust the club to do the right thing for us.”
“(Signing players) is my main concern, I have a lot of trust in the club, we’ll see what happens.”
The 33-year-old’s current contract with Liverpool expires on June 30, 2024. He joined the Reds in January 2018 and has now been at the club for over six years, with a current market value of €30 million. He has made 270 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 23 goals and assisting 12. He has also won one Champions League title, one Premier League title, one FA Cup title, one Community Shield title and two League Cup titles.
