On August 25, former Liverpool manager Klopp backed his successor, Slot, praising his excellent work.
Klopp said he had contacted Slot via text message: “We have had a couple of exchanges and then a few text messages. I initially gave him positive feedback, I’m a very hard-working coach.”
Klopp spoke of the difficulties Slot faced: “This summer, with the European Championship and the Copa America, it also made the team difficult. When the team had just gathered its squad, there was only one week left before the new season. The work he has done for the team and the tactical ideas are obvious.”
Klopp recalled his feelings when he first learned about Liverpool signing Slot: “When I heard that Liverpool was going to appoint Slot as head coach, I was really happy. But I wasn’t involved in the team’s coaching selection, I’m not the kind of person who leaves and still influences the club. My only concern at the time was, could Liverpool find a good successor? But with Liverpool securing Slot early on, I think the club really found a perfect fit.”
Klopp spoke about his current state of being unemployed: “I still like watching football, especially Red Bull Salzburg. I also watched Liverpool’s game, the team played well. In addition, I also watched Olympic football.”
