Carragher: Palmer is a United fan, would move if Chelsea struggles

According to former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher, Manchester United could make a big-money move for Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer in the summer of 2025.

Palmer moved from Manchester City to Chelsea last season and has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders. He scored 25 goals and assisted 15 times in 45 appearances in his debut season for the Blues, earning the 2023/24 Premier League Young Player of the Year award.

His performances have earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2024 European Championships. Chelsea have recently offered Palmer a new contract that would keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

However, despite Chelsea’s desire to keep hold of Palmer long-term, Carragher believes the England international could look to move on if the Blues continue to struggle. Carragher believes Manchester United would be the ideal destination for Palmer and expects the Red Devils to make a move to strengthen their midfield.

“If Chelsea have another poor season, I think Palmer might look to move on,” said Carragher. “We’ve said before that United have a real problem on the right-hand side, they definitely need a quality player. Maybe you didn’t know, Palmer’s a massive United fan, right? That could influence his decision down the line.”

“If things are not going well at Chelsea, United might go to Chelsea and ask the price for Palmer. I think that is a possibility. Yeah, Cole Palmer will join Manchester United in the future.” Carragher stressed.
