According to The Mirror, the England star is set for a huge pay rise regardless of whether he moves as Real Madrid make their move for the Liverpool defender.
The report claims: Arnold, 25, is into the final year of his contract and with Liverpool in a period of transition – Jurgen Klopp replaced by Jurgen Klopp, sporting director Jorg Schmadtke new to the role – talks over a new deal haven’t really heated up. This means the player is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with other clubs from January.
Arnold is not short of admirers, with talk of a free transfer to Real Madrid, La Liga and European champions, intensifying. They would offer him a lucrative salary, as they did with Kylian Mbappe, especially a huge signing-on fee.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster said: “Van Dijk, Salah, they’re on £600k a week. Arnold knows that if he signs a four, five year deal, he becomes an asset worth hundreds of millions. If someone buys him after that, they’re paying at least £100m, minimum. Players know that, so he can say, ‘right, make me the highest earner in the Premier League, and I’ll sign a new deal. I think that’s probably what will happen, £400-500k a week if he goes to Real Madrid on a free transfer!”
That means whether Arnold stays at Anfield or leaves on a free transfer, he is set for a pay rise.
