August 21st At the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association) annual awards ceremony held in the early hours of today, Leeds United forward Summerville, who joined West Ham this summer, was awarded the 2023/24 Championship Player of the Year.
He had just joined West Ham for a transfer fee of £25 million. Last season, he played 49 times for Leeds United in the Championship, starting 45 times, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists. Despite Leeds United losing to Southampton in the final stages and missing out on promotion, Summerville was still awarded the Championship Player of the Year.
The player’s current market value is €20 million. He came on as a substitute in the 17th minute of the first round of the Premier League, creating one chance, but the team eventually lost 1-2 at home to Aston Villa, failing to get off to a winning start.
