Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai spoke to the club after his side’s 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town in the opening game of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
On the opening game
“I’m happy to get the three points. We knew we had to be ready from the first minute. We reacted well in the second half. Jota opened the scoring, then Salah added the second. Three points is satisfactory but we also learned some things.”
On the adjustments made during half-time
“It was a tough game. We needed to be intense, keep the ball, attack forward and make them run but it wasn’t working so well. That is where we had to adjust. We controlled the game more in the second half, created more chances. That is what we wanted to do from the beginning.”
On what the manager asks of him
“Before, we had one six and two eights in midfield. Now it’s a six, eight and a ten. Sometimes I need to drop back, sometimes I stay in my position. With the ball, I need to be more involved in the attack, without the ball, I need to do my job. This is no different from last season.”
On how the team’s getting back up to speed
“We had a long pre-season. Not everyone was involved. We still need time to gel. Last year we knew each other. Now, we are facing a new system, a different style of football. But I think we will get used to each other over time.”
