Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola held a press conference ahead of the Premier League opener against Chelsea on August 18th at 23:30 GMT.
Guardiola said: “Rodri is training, I haven’t seen him yet. He’s feeling good, we have to see how he feels after training, but he won’t play on Sunday.”
“Yes, Cancelo is training with us, we will see. He might stay, he might go on loan, it’s possible. In training, we say hello, we talk. What happens next depends on his agent. In the end, we have to say we will treat him like the other players – respect him and try our best to get the best out of him, I never doubted his quality.”
On Erling Haaland’s injury, Guardiola said he was “really sad” for the Norwegian striker, confirming he had undergone surgery and would be out for about three to four months. Guardiola also confirmed that the loan move for Phillips to Ipswich was “close to completion.”
