Crystal Palace Set £75m Price Tag on Guehi, Could Break Defensive Transfer Record if Sold to Liverpool or Newcastle

Crystal Palace recently sold French youngster Michael Olise to Bayern Munich for over £50 million, but he is not the most valuable player in their squad. Reports suggest that Premier League clubs Liverpool and Newcastle United are interested in signing Crystal Palace’s new England international central defender Marc Guehi, and according to TeamTalk, Crystal Palace have set a price tag of £75 million for the defender.

Both Liverpool and Newcastle United are keen on Guehi, especially Newcastle United, who have made multiple bids for the player, raising their offer from £50 million to £55 million, but Crystal Palace have repeatedly rejected the bids. Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “No offers have been received for Guehi that meet our requirements at the moment. There is no doubt that he is a talented player. Any team wanting to get such a star will have to pay a fee that matches his worth.”

According to TeamTalk, Crystal Palace hope to keep Guehi, but if a team is willing to pay a transfer fee of £75 million, then they are willing to sell. According to Transfermarkt, the record transfer fee for a defender was set by Maguire in 2019, when Manchester United paid £87 million to Leicester City for him. If Crystal Palace sell Guehi for £75 million, this would mean that Guehi’s transfer fee would surpass Maguire’s and become the highest transfer fee for a defender. This is because the current exchange rate makes £75 million equivalent to €87.4 million.

In 2021, Guehi joined Crystal Palace from Chelsea for £18 million and quickly became a key player for the team. This year, at the European Championship, Guehi was a key player in England’s run to the final, putting in impressive performances. Guehi’s contract with Crystal Palace expires on June 30, 2026.
