Petit: Arsenal must not buy Sterling, he’s inconsistent

Recently, there have been strong rumours surrounding Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling’s transfer, with several big clubs linked with him. However, Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit does not want his old team to sign Sterling, and he has given his reasons.

Petit advises Arteta not to sign Sterling, as the player is getting older and has been inconsistent. Sterling will turn 30 in December and is very likely to be sold by Chelsea before the summer transfer window closes. Petit said: “No, Arsenal can’t sign Sterling, he can be brilliant, but he’s too inconsistent. He still needs to improve his finishing, he needs to score more goals, that’s the biggest issue for him at the moment.”

“Arteta likes young players, Sterling is definitely not Arteta’s target, he definitely wouldn’t want a player like that in his team, he needs young players who are hungry for success. Sterling has no room for improvement anymore.”

Petit played for both Arsenal and Chelsea during his playing career.
