Haaland has shown amazing goalscoring efficiency in the opening stages of the Premier League this season, scoring four goals in his first two games. In Manchester City’s recent 4-1 victory over newly promoted Ipswich, he also completed his tenth career hat-trick.
Following his one goal against Chelsea in the first game, Haaland scored three goals against Ipswich in the second round, putting him at the top of the goalscoring charts with four goals at the start of the season.
Since joining Manchester City in the summer of 2022, Haaland has scored 94 goals in 101 games, making him one of the top strikers in European football.
Despite this, Manchester City manager Guardiola believes Haaland still needs some time to reach the same level of completeness as Messi. When asked after the game at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday whether Haaland is the most complete centre-forward of all time, his answer surprised many: “The most incredible striker I’ve ever seen is Messi, I’ve never seen a player like that.”
Guardiola’s praise for Messi is overflowing. He has repeatedly mentioned the Argentine superstar in public, insisting that Messi is the greatest player of all time.
However, Guardiola also highly praised Haaland’s performance and believes the young striker will be able to compete with Ronaldo and Messi in the future.
“Haaland has been in excellent form all the way from Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City now. The numbers are simply astonishing,” said Guardiola. “Haaland has the potential to catch Ronaldo and Messi in terms of goalscoring. His numbers at this age are incredible, he is a huge threat, and I hope he can maintain this form for years to come.”
