Ahead of the Premier League season, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones sat down for an interview with the Liverpool Echo.
Jones said: “Versatility is important now, because you can’t always guarantee your position in the team, even if it is your position and you’ve made your mark there.”
“We have so many games, there might be injuries and things, the manager knows I can play on the left, can play as the 10, can play as the 8 and if he needs me at right-back, I’ve done that.”
“Even though I want to be a midfielder and play there, I’ve adapted to playing in other positions and if he needs me elsewhere, I’m happy to do it.”
Of Jones’ 133 appearances for Liverpool, the majority have come in a midfield role, but he has also featured on occasion in the No 6 and No 10 roles, played on the left and even filled in at right-back in a game against Brighton in the 2020/21 season.
Regarding Liverpool’s targets for the new season, Jones added: “This season we’re capable of doing anything. I’m not saying that just to hype people up. I’m saying that with full confidence. You can see it on my face now. Maybe some people might say we should aim for a final or top four. But we know, individually and as a team, how good we are. I don’t want to say we’re going to win the league or the Champions League but we can be successful 100 per cent and success is trophies. I can’t say what trophies we’re going to win specifically but we’re definitely going to be in the mix.”
