August 23, according to The Sun, former Premier League star, Alan Shearer, has been sacked by the BBC for texting harassment of a female employee.
According to The Sun, Shearer was sacked after a female employee made the allegation against him on a show. The female employee said she received harassing text messages from Shearer. Previously, a large mural of Shearer, Gary Lineker, Ian Wright and Micah Richards, which was hung at BBC headquarters, has also been removed.
Shearer responded to the incident: “I can’t talk about it now, but I’m really unhappy about it. I’ll discuss it with my lawyer.”
An insider said: “This is a complete nightmare for the BBC. Someone made a complaint about Shearer, and after a routine investigation, the BBC decided to suspend Shearer and terminate his contract.”
Shearer was considered Lineker’s successor on MOTD (a BBC football program), and he covered the European Championship this summer and was a commentator for the Spain and France semi-final.
According to official statistics, Shearer’s salary at the BBC is between £190,000 and £195,000.
