August 14th, the new season of the Premier League will kick off this weekend, the Premier League CEO told the media that the VAR technology will be upgraded this season, reducing the average waiting time for VAR by 31 seconds.
In June this year, the 20 clubs in the Premier League voted to keep the video replay technology, despite a number of controversial decisions last season. After VAR was voted to stay in the Premier League, Premier League CEO Richard Masters said he supports VAR, and said everyone wants to improve it.
Masters said: “The key issue with VAR needs to be addressed, and the priority is to address the long waiting times and the live experience for fans when they are being reviewed by VAR.”
He added: “We want to do more, and we are trying to work with the International Football Association Board and FIFA to enhance the experience for fans in the stadium. Players and clubs all want to reduce the waiting time caused by VAR, the upgraded new technology is expected to reduce the waiting time by an average of 31 seconds.”
