After Jurgen Klopp’s departure, Jurgen Klopp, Jurgen Klopp’s successor, has taken over the reins at Liverpool. So far in the summer transfer window, the Reds have only sold players, not bought any. Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Liverpool, currently in a state of flux, will not even finish in the top six of the Premier League next season.
Under Klopp, Liverpool enjoyed remarkable success, consistently challenging for the Premier League title. However, with Klopp’s departure, Neville doesn’t believe that Klopp’s successor will be able to seamlessly take over. In Neville’s view, the lack of activity and failures in the transfer market have cast a shadow over Liverpool’s future.
Neville stated, “I can’t be sure about the top four, but I believe Liverpool will not finish in the top six. I don’t think the departures of many players will bring the Liverpool dressing room closer together. Many players will question, ‘What is going on here?’, and missing out on desired new signings will dampen the team’s morale.”
Liverpool’s first game of the new season will be against newly promoted Ipswich Town, which might make Klopp’s successor’s start slightly easier, as Liverpool, without any new arrivals, need a winning start to boost their spirits.
Compared to Neville’s pessimism about Liverpool’s future, Klopp’s successor remains very confident in his ability to lead the team to success. He is pleased with the team’s performance in pre-season, but still believes there is room for improvement. “We are getting better day by day, although we are still adapting to each other. We are still far from perfect, but I have inherited a strong team. If possible, we will continue to strengthen the squad.”
