Has Attitude Changed? Manchester Evening News: Manchester United Open to Renewing Fernandes’ Contract

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have not made extending Bruno Fernandes’ contract a priority this summer, but they are open to offering a new deal if the player remains at the club until the transfer window closes.

The report states that Fernandes has attracted interest from clubs like Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, and his future at Manchester United is uncertain, partly due to his own stance. In an interview in May, Fernandes said: “If the club thinks I’m still part of their plans, I’ll stay. If they don’t want me for other reasons, I’ll leave.”

It is understood that Manchester United are not currently planning to discuss contract extensions with any players whose deals are not due to expire this summer. Fernandes’ contract runs until 2026, with an option for a further year.

Fernandes was named Manchester United’s Player of the Season for the third time last season and is widely regarded as their best signing since Robin van Persie in 2012. Although Fernandes is one of Manchester United’s most consistent performers, his salary is only the third highest in the squad, behind Casemiro and Marcus Rashford.
