Liverpool Boost! Salah and Endo Opt Out of Olympics, Focusing on Pre-Season

On July 4th, Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo have decided to fully dedicate themselves to Liverpool’s pre-season training, confirming they will not participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, prioritizing their club commitments.

Despite the Egyptian and Japanese FA’s interest in including the Liverpool stars as over-age players in their Olympic squads, the club was not obligated to release them as the Olympics are not officially recognized by FIFA. After discussions, both players will remain in Merseyside to train with the squad.

Additionally, Stefan Bajcetic will also not be representing Spain’s U23 national team at the Olympics. The young midfielder missed several games last season due to injury, and a full pre-season is crucial for him to regain peak fitness and form.

Liverpool’s new manager, Jurgen Klopp, is pleased with the players’ decision to skip the Olympics. After taking over from Jurgen Klopp, he urgently needs to instill his tactical philosophies in the team.

Salah and Endo will participate in Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States later this month. The team is scheduled to arrive in Pittsburgh on July 23rd and play their first friendly against Real Betis on July 26th. The new Premier League season kicks off on August 17th with Liverpool facing newly promoted Ipswich Town for their first match of the 2024/25 campaign.

This decision will allow Liverpool to make the most of their pre-season, ensuring all players have ample time to adapt to the new coach’s tactical system and be fully prepared for the upcoming season.
