On July 2, according to the New York Times, Manchester United has confirmed Qualcomm subsidiary Snapdragon as the sponsor for their new season’s jerseys. The two parties have signed a three-year contract worth a staggering $225 million (averaging $75 million per year). Based on the three-year contract, Snapdragon has the option to extend the partnership for another two years.
In 2022, German software company TeamViewer announced that it would not renew its five-year, £47 million per year (approximately £37 million at current exchange rates) contract with Manchester United. In December of the same year, Manchester United reached an agreement with TeamViewer, allowing the club to repurchase its own jersey sponsorship rights.
Today, Manchester United unveiled its new home jersey, featuring Qualcomm subsidiary Snapdragon as the most prominent sponsor. Both the men’s and women’s teams will wear this jersey in all competitions.
The signed jersey contract will not contain any clauses requiring Manchester United to qualify for the Champions League. Even if Manchester United fails to participate in European competitions for several years, they will not be penalized. Snapdragon can choose one game per season to have a charity’s name printed on the front of the Manchester United jersey, demonstrating their support for charitable causes.
The group’s CEO, McGuire, said: “The reason for choosing Manchester United is that the club has a vast fan base of 1.1 billion, and no other club can match the global sales of their jersey. The exposure obtained by the front partner of Manchester United’s jersey in any given game is comparable to the Super Bowl.”
