Newcastle announced on July 1st that they have signed former Birmingham goalkeeper John Ruddy on a free transfer. The deal is for one year.
The 37-year-old Ruddy came through the Cambridge United youth ranks and has previously played for Everton, Norwich, Wolves and Birmingham. He is no stranger to the Premier League, having been a key player for Norwich between 2011/12 and 2015/16.
Ruddy has been Birmingham’s first-choice goalkeeper for the past two seasons, making 87 appearances in the Championship and keeping 25 clean sheets. His contract expired this summer, leading to his departure from Birmingham.
