Sir Ratcliffe Explains Why Ten Hag Remains: Coaching Not the Key Issue for Man United

Despite meeting with Tuchel, Manchester United ultimately decided to retain Erik ten Hag as their manager. In an interview, Sir Jim Ratcliffe explained that Ten Hag’s continued role was due to the fact that coaching wasn’t the primary issue for the club. He believes that the reason for Man United’s inability to regain their former glory lies elsewhere.

After the end of last season, Ten Hag’s potential departure became a major topic in the media. Sir Jim Ratcliffe met with Tuchel, but ultimately Manchester United confirmed that Ten Hag would remain in charge. While commenting on the European Championships as a pundit, Ten Hag also revealed that he would continue to manage Manchester United next season.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was questioned about the failure to find a new manager and the decision to retain Ten Hag. He responded, “Coaching is not the core problem for Manchester United right now.” Ratcliffe also suggested that the presence of so many young players in the current squad is a unique challenge for any manager, something that previous Man United managers have not encountered.

Although Manchester United finished last season in 8th place, their lowest position since the 1992-93 season, their FA Cup victory over Manchester City was deemed the most important factor in Ten Hag’s continued role.

Since becoming a shareholder in Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has implemented a series of reforms within the club. These include staff reductions within the office and a restructuring of the entire team, including the replacement of the CEO, technical director and director of football.
