Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho is currently with Argentina at the Copa América in the United States, and according to the Manchester Evening News, the Argentine FA has not contacted the club to request his participation in the Paris Olympics. The player will return to Manchester United after the Copa América to begin pre-season preparations.
The 20-year-old made his senior international debut last week in Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Peru. Garnacho is eligible for the Paris Olympics, but his name was not included in Argentina’s 18-man + 4-man reserve squad announced by Olympic coach Javier Mascherano. There have been reports from Argentina suggesting that Manchester United blocked Garnacho from participating in the Olympics, but the Manchester Evening News reports that the club has not received a request from the Argentine FA for Garnacho’s participation in the Paris Olympics. Therefore, Garnacho will return to Manchester United after the Copa América to prepare for the 2024/25 season.
Garnacho, a product of the Manchester United academy, has become a key player for Erik ten Hag. He made 50 appearances for United in the 2023/24 season, scoring 10 goals and having a run of 39 consecutive starts. Due to his participation in the Copa América, Garnacho will miss the club’s three pre-season friendlies in the United States and could feature in the Community Shield clash against Manchester City on August 10. Manchester United players will report back for training next week, with those who did not participate in the European Championships and Copa América starting pre-season training on Monday.
