Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has addressed his future in an interview with Belgian media, stating that he has never requested to leave the club and will not be leaving this summer.
Responding to rumors surrounding his potential transfer, De Bruyne stated: “I signed a contract with Manchester City at the right time. If a good offer arrived, and I told Pep [Guardiola] I wanted to leave, then leaving would be possible. This might be different at other clubs, but I never expressed my desire to leave the team.”
“Stay at Manchester City? Yes, I saw many transfer headlines in the media, but I never told anyone I wanted to leave. Earlier during the Club World Cup, I met with Michael Emenalo, the sporting director of the Saudi league, because we knew each other before, but it was nothing related to a transfer.”
“This will be a quiet summer. After the European Championship, I will first enjoy my vacation and then report back to Manchester City. I’m sure I’ll have conversations with Manchester City in the coming months.”
De Bruyne, 33, has a contract with Manchester City that expires next summer. Last season, he made 26 appearances for the club, scoring 6 goals and providing 18 assists.
