New York Times: Glazer Family Fails to Secure Stake in NWSL’s Angel City

On July 4, The New York Times reported that the Glazer family, owners of Manchester United, have failed in their attempt to acquire a controlling stake in Angel City, a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team.

Sources say that the Glazer family had been seeking a stake in the club, but due to the sensitive nature of the negotiations, individuals involved are unwilling to comment publicly.

Over the past year, the Glazer family have cashed in by selling 25% of Manchester United to Jim Ratcliffe for £1.25 billion. Angel City, which the Glazers were looking to acquire, is reportedly valued at $250 million. Disney CEO Robert Iger and his wife Willow Bay are expected to invest $50 million to take a stake in the club from Angel City’s largest shareholder, Alexis Ohanian.

In addition to their stake in Manchester United, the Glazer family also owns the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Desert Vipers (UAE T20 League).
