According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, newly-promoted Premier League side Southampton are close to signing 24-year-old Japan international full-back Yuta Sugawara. The player is scheduled to undergo a medical today.
Sugawara joined AZ Alkmaar in 2020 from Nagoya Grampus. He has established himself as a key right-back for AZ over the past four seasons and has impressed this season with 4 goals and 9 assists in all competitions.
Romano reports that a deal for Sugawara to join Southampton has been agreed upon and the player will officially sign for the Saints today after completing his medical. Southampton will offer him a four-year contract.
