On July 8, Dutch legend Wesley Sneijder spoke about Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in an interview with talkSPORT. He believes that Ten Hag will win the Premier League title before Klopp.
Liverpool appointed Feyenoord boss Slot after Klopp left the club this summer. It remains to be seen whether the 45-year-old can replicate Klopp’s success at Anfield, while Ten Hag has been given a new contract at Manchester United. This means that the two Dutch managers will be going head-to-head next season, and Sneijder is backing Ten Hag to win.
Sneijder said: “They are both good coaches. Slot did a great job at Feyenoord and at Manchester United, they have a lot of confidence in Ten Hag. He signed a new contract, Van Nistelrooy is also coming to the coaching staff, I just got the news. So I think they can do great things because they have amazing players at Manchester United. They need time to build a team. So far it looks like that, they have time to build a team. I think they’ll compete for some trophies this season.”
When asked who would win the Premier League first, Liverpool or Manchester United, Sneijder replied: “Manchester United. Because they have time to build something, the coach will stay, they have enough confidence in the coach to build something, so I believe they will be stronger this season than last season.”
Slot led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2023 and finished second last season, although they won the KNVB Cup. Meanwhile, Ten Hag won two trophies in his two seasons at Manchester United – the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup this year.
There were reports that Ten Hag could still be sacked after winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City, with Pochettino and Tuchel among the potential replacements. But ultimately he stayed on and signed a new contract with the club.
