Chelsea’s official website has published Enzo Maresca’s first press conference after taking over at Stamford Bridge. The new Blues boss has pointed out that Chelsea’s squad is full of talent but urgently needs to build the right mentality and culture.
“At this moment, when you join a club, you have to analyze where the club and the team need to improve, and then do the right things,” Maresca said. “In my opinion, it is obvious that we need to build the right mentality and culture as quickly as possible, a culture that will make the fans proud. It is very important.”.
Maresca, who took over from Pochettino last month, has said that getting closer to the fans will help: “We will try to be an aggressive team, both with and without the ball. And we need to strengthen the bond between the club and the fans, especially in home games. When you have the fans behind you, it’s like having 12 players on the pitch, that’s what we have to do.”.
Despite some players still being involved in the European Championship and Copa America, most of the players will return to Chelsea and begin pre-season training today. Chelsea will head to the United States for a training camp at the end of the month. Maresca said: “I am very excited, one of the reasons I came here is that I am very confident that the squad is very good and full of talent.
