July 9 – According to a report from the UK’s The Sun, newly promoted Premier League side Leicester City are keen on signing Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley to replace the departed midfielder Youri Tielemans.
Leicester believe that the 23-year-old O’Riley can make up for the goals and creativity they’ve lost in Tielemans’ departure. However, Celtic’s asking price of £50 million has scared off many suitors.
These include Brighton, who were also interested in the player but ultimately decided to sign Feyenoord midfielder Jens Odgaard for £30 million.
O’Riley enjoyed a fantastic season with Celtic, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists in 37 league appearances as they clinched the Scottish Premiership title. He signed a new long-term contract with the club last summer, keeping him at Celtic Park until 2027. Despite his impressive form, he did not make Denmark’s squad for the 2024 European Championships.
