Martinez’s agent said: “Last summer, after De Gea left on a free transfer, Manchester United were looking for a goalkeeper to replace him in the transfer market. Martinez was close to joining Manchester United, including Manchester United’s scouts and sporting director, who all had conversations with us. But Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag ultimately rejected the deal and chose to sign his former Ajax player, Andre Onana.”
