Koulibaly: Conte and Lukaku could help Napoli reclaim Serie A title

Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who has played for both Napoli and Chelsea and now plays for Al-Nassr, has said that the arrival of Antonio Conte and Romelu Lukaku could help Napoli win the Serie A title again, in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

Koulibaly: Conte and Lukaku could help Napoli reclaim Serie A title

Koulibaly left Napoli for Chelsea in the summer of 2022, and in the interview, he stated that he will always be a Napoli fan. Koulibaly said: “I’m a Neapolitan, and I always will be. I watched the team’s season opener on my laptop on Friday, and I still feel like I’m part of Napoli. Conte is now the coach of Napoli, and under his guidance we can dream of success.”

Although he never worked with Conte, Koulibaly insists that the appointment is a crucial step for Napoli’s return to glory. He said: “Three days ago I spoke with Conte and I joked that we had never worked together. When he wanted me at Chelsea, I decided to stay at Napoli. I would have liked to play under him because he is a top-level coach. Hiring him is a great thing for Napoli because he knows how to return Napoli to the ranks of the top teams, at least to get a Champions League spot, but I hope the team has bigger dreams. Conte is a coach who is used to winning, he will help the club and the city win trophies, just as Spalletti did. If we are all together and determined, why can’t we aim for the league title?”

Napoli plan to replace Osimhen with Lukaku. On this, Koulibaly said: “We all know the qualities of Romelu, I faced him many times. He is a top striker, he had some of the best years of his career under Conte. The deal is entirely up to Victor, but Lukaku could be the right choice for the team, with him (Lukaku), Napoli could achieve great things.”
