Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Lautaro Martinez has signed a new contract, but Genoa’s Gudmundsson is no longer on their radar.
Inter have been negotiating with Lautaro for months, with the new deal reportedly extending until June 2029, raising his salary to €9 million net per year, plus bonuses.
Marotta said: “It’s all done, Lautaro has signed the papers, but we want to officially announce it when he returns from vacation.”
Lautaro is currently on vacation after a very busy season in which he helped Inter win the Serie A title and the Italian Super Cup, and scored the winning goal in the Copa America final to help Argentina win the title.
Inter have strengthened their squad this summer with the arrival of Taremi and Zielinski on free transfers, and they also signed Genoa goalkeeper Josep Martinez. Marotta said: “We have made the squad more competitive for our goals. We have an excellent coach, a top-class staff, and great fans. This is the basis on which we are building for the new season.”
Inter were in talks with Genoa over Gudmundsson, but were scared off by the Icelandic international’s price tag. Marotta said: “He is not an option. For now, we have a plethora of attacking talent. Now, he is not what we need.”
Former Inter manager Antonio Conte has returned to Serie A with Napoli, and is expected to challenge for the Serie A title this season. Marotta said: “The more strong contenders there are in Serie A, the better. Conte is a good coach, Napoli will certainly be one of the candidates to win the Serie A title.”
