David de Gea’s move to a new club is reportedly being held up by his desire to earn £80,000 per week.
The goalkeeper agreed to a £200,000-a-week reduction in his salary from £375,000 last year, but that was only after manager Erik ten Hag made it clear that he wanted to sign Andre Onana, and the Red Devils were forced to let De Gea go.
Six months after becoming a free agent, De Gea received multiple offers in January from Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Real Betis, and a Saudi Arabian club, but he ultimately chose to not join any of them.
This summer, he held talks with Genoa and Fiorentina, but reports suggest that he rejected both clubs due to their inability to meet his salary demands.
TEAMtalk report that De Gea is looking for a £5 million-a-year contract, which would amount to £80,000 per week. His “unrealistic” wage demands are said to be beyond Genoa’s budget, while Fiorentina could only offer a £4 million-a-year deal.
