On August 18th, Inter Milan drew 2-2 with Genoa in the first round of Serie A. Inter’s main defender Bastoni slammed the packed schedule, saying it was difficult for the team to recover.
Bastoni said of the congested schedule: “Our players, who competed in the European Cup and the Copa America this summer, are all under physical and mental pressure. We have to adapt to the increasingly crowded schedule, but 20 days of rest is simply not enough. Mentally speaking, it is difficult to cope with so many games, especially when the season seems never-ending. But since we are playing on the field, we need to give it our all.”
Bastoni then briefly commented on the game: “It was a tough game, Genoa are a strong team, they have many good players, and the fans were there to cheer them on. We just came off an incredibly successful season, but we can only draw with our opponents this time.”
