According to reports from Milan Sport, AC Milan may abandon its attempt to sign Hakim Ziyech for €55 million, and instead, they will try to sign both Romelu Lukaku and Tammy Abraham for the same amount of money.
The Dutch forward, currently playing for Bologna, is a highly appreciated player for AC Milan and is seen as a great replacement for Olivier Giroud. However, the club’s plans to sign Ziyech this summer have stalled. AC Milan was willing to pay €40 million to secure his signature, but Ziyech’s agent demanded an additional €15 million in commission. This would have increased the total cost to €55 million, halting the transfer.
In light of this, AC Milan is preparing to activate Plan B. Lukaku is set to return to Chelsea after the end of his loan spell with Roma. However, it’s well known that he’s not in Chelsea’s plans. Lukaku has a release clause in his contract with Chelsea, worth approximately €43 million. AC Milan is willing to pay between €25 million and €30 million to Chelsea for Lukaku or try to secure him on loan.
Besides the Belgian striker, AC Milan is also interested in English forward Tammy Abraham. He has had a difficult 2023-24 season with Roma in Serie A. Abraham is currently valued at €30 million, and AC Milan is willing to pay between €20 million and €25 million for him. This means that AC Milan could potentially sign both Lukaku and Abraham for €55 million. However, even if they manage to acquire both players for a lower transfer fee, their wages are substantial and could potentially disrupt AC Milan’s wage structure. While Ziyech may be younger, the success of Zlatan Ibrahimović and Olivier Giroud at AC Milan has proven that age is not a major concern.
Currently, both Ziyech and Lukaku are participating in the European Championship. During the group stage, Dutch coach Ronald Koeman did not give Ziyech any playing time. Meanwhile, Lukaku started for Belgium as the main striker, providing one assist but received significant criticism for missing several key scoring opportunities. In the round of 16, Belgium will face France, and the Netherlands will play against Romania.
