According to multiple Italian media outlets, new Salernitana manager Paulo Sousa may resign after the club’s budget for the upcoming season was significantly reduced due to the failure of current owner Danilo Iervolino to reach an agreement with Brembo Holding for the sale of the club.
On June 20, Salernitana announced former Udinese manager Sousa as their new head coach. However, just ten days after the official announcement, Sousa is likely to step down. The reason lies in the failure of current owner Danilo Iervolino to successfully sell the club to Brembo Holding, meaning Salernitana’s budget in the upcoming Serie B season will be significantly reduced, which does not align with Sousa’s initial expectations when he agreed to take the job.
Last season, Salernitana’s lack of budget resulted in an inability to make effective signings, leading to a dismal record of 2 wins, 11 draws, and 25 losses, which placed them last in the league and relegated them to Serie B.
It is understood that if team owner Danilo Iervolino does not make changes to the reduced budget, Sousa is expected to resign on Monday, Italian time.
