La Liga! Century of Champions, More Champions Than Top Leagues Combined

On June 2nd, Real Madrid won their 15th Champions League title by defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final. Since the turn of the century, La Liga has won a staggering 36 European trophies, far surpassing any other league.

In the 21st century, Real Madrid has continued to dominate Europe, claiming 8 Champions League titles and 5 UEFA Super Cups. Barcelona has also been incredibly successful, winning 4 Champions League titles and 3 UEFA Super Cups. Sevilla, known as the “Europa League King,” has won the Europa League 5 times, along with 2 UEFA Cups and 1 UEFA Super Cup. These three teams alone account for the majority of Spain’s European trophies.

The European trophy haul of other leagues pales in comparison to Real Madrid’s dominance. Since the turn of the century, the Premier League, in second place, has won 16 European trophies, Serie A has won 7, the Bundesliga has won 6, and the Portuguese Primeira Liga has won 3. Combined, the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Portuguese Primeira Liga still have fewer European trophies than La Liga.
