Lineker says he will cheer for Real Madrid for the first time, unhappy with Dortmund’s sponsorship by an arms dealer

Early on June 2nd, Real Madrid and Dortmund will compete for this season’s Champions League title at Wembley Stadium. Prior to the game, Lineker expressed on social media that he would be cheering for Real Madrid for the first time.

The reason for this stems from Dortmund signing a three-year sponsorship deal with German armored vehicle parts manufacturer “Rheinmetall.” According to media reports, Dortmund will receive a sponsorship fee exceeding €20 million.

However, Lineker is rather displeased with this. He retweeted a TA report on the matter on X, writing: “This is the first time I’ll be cheering for Real Madrid in a Champions League final.”

Lineker played for Barcelona between 1986 and 1989, making 138 appearances and scoring 51 goals. He helped the club win one Copa del Rey title.
