On June 24, Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Atlético Madrid’s stadium could host the 2028 Champions League final.
The Spanish capital has already organized a significant number of decisive events such as the old European Cup or the Champions League on as many as four occasions: in 1957, 1969, 1980 and 2010. However, Atlético’s cross-town rivals and fellow La Liga giants Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium have always been the preferred venue. Therefore, the sixth final in Madrid could lead to a second reprise for the Metropolitano.
UEFA has already announced that the 2026 Champions League final will take place at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, while the next season, 2024/2025, will see Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena host the grand event. By 2027, Milan’s San Siro stadium has a strong chance of becoming the Champions League final venue.
The Wanda Metropolitano has a chance in 2028, let’s wait and see.
