In the Champions League final played at 3:00 am on June 2nd, Borussia Dortmund lost 0-2 to Real Madrid, missing out on the Champions League title. Dortmund CEO Watzke was interviewed after the game.
Watzke said: “I am really very disappointed, which is only natural. We played very well, we had a huge advantage in the first half, and we had those very, very close chances to score. If we had taken the lead in the first half maybe the result would have been completely different. From the 60th minute onwards in the second half, we were a bit tired. Real Madrid was quick to notice this and made the most of it. But you can’t blame our team, they did really well today.”
“We understand our strength, being able to stand on the stage of the Champions League final is already something we can be proud of. But when you’ve already reached the final, and you’ve controlled the game in the final, and you’ve had great opportunities, and the end result is Real Madrid winning, it’s so disappointing.”
