According to AS, even though Güler has not played a single minute in the Champions League for Real Madrid, he will still be officially recognized by UEFA as a Champions League winner.
UEFA would not normally recognize a player who has not made an appearance as a Champions League winner, even if they were called up and officially registered on the team’s list. Despite UEFA not officially changing their stance, the precedent of Isco has demonstrated a change in trend. Isco won five Champions League titles during his time at the Bernabéu, four of which he was an important part of the team, but in his fifth and final title, the 2021/22 season, he did not play a single minute in the Champions League under Ancelotti. Contrary to the supposed rule, on the UEFA official website, they recognize Isco as having five Champions League titles, the same as his former teammates Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale, Marcelo, and Casemiro.
Güler’s situation is different from that of Real Madrid academy player Jeremy De Leon. Ancelotti took De Leon to the Champions League training camp “to complete training sessions”, in the coach’s words. But unlike Güler, De Leon was not on Real Madrid’s Champions League A list or B list, so he was not officially called up, and therefore will not be counted as a Champions League winner.
