Bowen hits back at Lineker: We didn’t play well, but we got points – hope for more tolerance

Lineker and Shearer are presenters on BBC’s “Match of the Night” program, and the two were extremely unhappy with England’s 1-1 draw against Denmark in the second round of the European Championship group stage, and were highly critical of head coach Southgate. As former players and veterans, Lineker even angrily described England’s performance as “rubbish.” Bowen hits back at Lineker: We didn’t play well, but we got points - hope for more tolerance

West Ham United forward Bowen hit back at the former players’ harsh criticism, reminding everyone that England remain unbeaten. Bowen said: “I don’t know why Lineker’s reaction was so strong, it was even a bit PG (meaning children under the age of 12 should watch with parental guidance), but I think they have the right to comment on the game because they were also international players and reached the highest level. But I think a sign of a really good team is that you know you can play better (and win the game), but first you have to make sure you don’t lose. We’re unbeaten now, we’ve got four points, but there’s still a lot of noise around, like we’ve lost two in a row and are bottom of the group. Actually, we’re top of the group, and we’re going into the last round of the group stage with confidence. We’re really looking forward to the game against Slovenia now, and our goal is to get three points.”

Bowen also encouraged his teammates to stay away from negative online comments: “Of course, you’ll see these comments, but you shouldn’t read too much before you eventually reply or say something you don’t want to say. You have to control what you want to see, because it can affect your emotions, give you negative feelings, especially when you’re sitting here after two games, unbeaten and in a very good position. We know what we’ve done, and what we can do in the future, and we can do better.”
