England have managed a win and a draw in their first two Euro matches, failing to secure early qualification. Former England international Ashley Cole offered some advice to Southgate in an interview.
Speaking to beIN Sports, Cole said: “I would love to see Gordon on the left and Foden on the right. I think it’s unfair on him at the moment. Give Saka a rest for the last game, let Foden go on the right and show the world how good he is.”
“I think he’s struggling because he’s not playing in his natural position. People say Foden is world class and he should adapt. It’s true, I understand that, but based on his Manchester City form, I would like to see him back on the right.”
Regarding the midfield, Cole said: “In midfield, I’d like to see Manu or Palmer as the number eight, getting more forward passes, controlling more in the middle of the pitch, they will bring something different.”
