Mirror: FA willing to wait until next year for Guardiola, hoping he will coach England after his Man City contract expires

Mirror: FA willing to wait until next year for Guardiola, hoping he will coach England after his Man City contract expiresAccording to an exclusive report from British media The Mirror, the FA is willing to wait until next summer, when Pep Guardiola’s contract with Manchester City expires, before appointing him as England manager.

Guardiola has previously expressed a desire to one day coach a national team, but analysis suggests that he is unlikely to take over Spain. Former England player Jermaine Jenas said that only four teams are likely to be of interest to Guardiola, “One day, Guardiola will coach a national team, but only Brazil, Portugal, England, and Germany are within his range of choices.”

However, a number of coaches are already in the running for the England manager position, including Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, and England U21 manager Lee Carsley. However, Jenas believes that Potter would be the best fit for England, “He’s innovative and can play the style of football that English fans love.”

Although the FA are keen to wait for Guardiola to become England’s next permanent manager, Jenas believes that England cannot afford to have a “vacancy” in the manager’s position, “They (the FA) have a difficult choice to make. They might consider for a while, but in my opinion, they should appoint a manager right away, get the team up and running as soon as possible and see what they’re capable of.”
