July 21, Arnold recently gave an interview to British media “The Mirror” about who could replace Southgate as England manager, and he said he hoped his mentor Klopp would take over.
Arnold said: “I enjoy every moment I work with Klopp, we share great memories, build great relationships, great bonds. So if that happens, of course we will continue to work together after we leave Liverpool.”
However, he admitted: “I’d be surprised if he actually took the England job.”
Talking about Southgate, Arnold said: “I do think Gareth has been underestimated, I think the England job is one of the toughest jobs in the world. You’re always going to be judged, there’s always going to be speculation, people are always going to have their opinions.”
“But the way he’s led the team and created an environment for the players is there for everyone to see. The team is together, everyone is united, but every manager gets criticised.”
