England won their opening game of the European Championship 1-0 against Serbia, but Foden had a poor performance in the match with zero stats. Before the upcoming second game against Denmark, Foden gave an interview.
Foden didn’t discuss his own poor performance in the first game, instead he first praised Bellingham: “Bellingham is an exceptional talent, he was brilliant, I think he’s becoming a leader for the team. I think we both link up well sometimes, sometimes we don’t, but we’re getting better, and we’re both getting better, it’s definitely going to get better. He’s a really exciting talent, I love playing with him, but you know, the first game of a big tournament is always tough.”
Then Foden talked about his own performance: “I think getting the win is the most important thing, and we did. Sometimes you struggle, because in this kind of game we need to defend more, and that shows another side of us, if we want to win, we have to do that.”
Foden’s performance at club and national team level can be described as two extremes, last season he had the best season of his career at club level, scoring 27 goals and providing 13 assists, but in his 35 appearances for the national team, he only managed to score 4 goals.
