Robertson: Sorry to the fans for the support, the stoppage time winner left us heartbroken

Robertson: Sorry to the fans for the support, the stoppage time winner left us heartbrokenAt 3 am on June 24th, Scotland was knocked out of the European Championship group stage after a stoppage-time winner from Hungary in the last match of Group A. After the game, Liverpool defender and Scotland captain Andrew Robertson spoke to the BBC.

Robertson said: “There’s not much we can say, we knew we had to win this game, we gave it everything we had, but at the end of the day, we got hit on the counter-attack. But that’s football, we’ll have to accept it, it’s going to take a long time to get over, to digest the fact that we’re out of the European Championships.”

“In the first half, we were controlling the ball, but we weren’t creating anything. We weren’t getting into the final third, we needed goals, we needed to get closer to the Hungarian supporters, and ultimately we get a draw which is not good enough.”

“It’s a devastating blow, to be knocked out by a last-minute winner, it’s gutting for everyone. It’s really tough to take. I’ll apologise to all the Scotland fans. We’re sorry for the support, we’ve let you down.”
