The Euro 2020 knockout stage is here! It’s unlikely we’ll see a huge number of upsets, last-minute goals, or draws, but there have been a few dark horses who made it to the Round of 16. The traditional European powers haven’t been at their best this tournament, and at least one surprise team should make it to the semi-finals! Also, there have been a lot of low-scoring games this tournament, which is due to a change in the rules. With 24 teams qualifying for the knockout stage and the third-place teams from each group having a good chance of advancing, there have been many tactical draws. This is the “gentleman’s agreement” everyone’s talking about! Last night’s Slovakia vs Romania match was a perfect example. Both teams drew 1-1 and advanced, but in the second half, neither team was in a hurry to attack and there were obvious defensive vulnerabilities. At the end of the match, the two teams were seen celebrating together!
