After drawing with Serbia, Denmark secured their spot in the Euro 16 and will travel to Dortmund this Saturday to face hosts Germany. Danish coach, Jørgen L. Sørensen, expressed excitement about facing the strong German team in the knockout stages.
Sørensen spoke to UEFA after the Serbia game: “The last 7, 8 minutes against Serbia, we were fully on the defensive, so I think we defended really well. We had to dig deep in this game and hang on, the players showed a lot of resilience and there were many things that I was very happy with. We still have a few things to adjust in our attack but I believe we can do it, as we have some fantastic players.”
The Danes will face the tournament hosts Germany in the Round of 16. Denmark have not beaten Germany since March 2007, which Sørensen acknowledged: “I really enjoy playing in Germany, Denmark vs Germany is one of the best matchups and I can’t wait for it. Germany is a great team, but so is Denmark. We always seem to bring out our best and rise to the occasion when we play strong teams.”
