June 27, according to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, former Spanish international Morientes (Manuel Agudo Durán) defended Spain captain and Atlético Madrid striker Morata, arguing that he has been unfairly criticized.
The former player who played for Celta, Sevilla, Barcelona, Benfica and Manchester City, stepped up to support Atlético Madrid striker Álvaro Morata.
Morientes said: “You can like him more, you can like him less, he has these statistics in all the teams he has played for, it’s not a coincidence. For me, he’s a great striker. They’re always picking on him, but we have to encourage him, he’s working hard with the whole national team, now he’s the starting striker. We have to give him encouragement and confidence.”
Morientes also added: “Because even if Messi makes a mistake, nothing happens, but Morata makes a mistake, they crucify him. Hopefully Spain can reach the final, and we can win the European Championship thanks to goals from Álvaro Morata.”
The former international is currently participating in the Spanish national team’s matches in Germany.
