French coach Deschamps named torchbearer for Paris Olympics opening ceremony

On June 27, according to rmcsport.bfmtv, French national team coach Didier Deschamps will be the torchbearer for France on July 23 in Clairefontaine.

It is reported that Deschamps will be joined by famous sports stars Sandrine Soubeyrand, Marie Laure, Blaise Matuidi, the 2018 World Cup winner, Jean-Pierre Le Mat, the 1984 Olympic men’s football gold medalist, and international referee Clément Turpin.

The Paris Olympics will open on July 26. Deschamps will participate in the torch relay three days before the opening ceremony.

Deschamps is currently leading the French team in the European Championship held in Germany. France finished second in their group with one win and two draws, accumulating five points, advancing to the round of 16 where they will face Belgium. France’s half of the bracket includes strong teams like Germany, Spain, and Portugal, making it a very difficult challenge. The last time France won the European Championship was in 2000, and it will be difficult for Deschamps to lead the team to victory again after 24 years.
