Gascoigne: Hopes England Wins, One World Cup Title is Embarrassing

England legend Paul Gascoigne has expressed his hope that the Three Lions can lift the European Championship trophy in an interview with The Mirror. Gascoigne said he doesn’t want England’s legacy to be defined by constantly reminiscing about the 1966 World Cup glory.

Gascoigne wants England to win the Euros: “I hope England wins and we have a player score a hat-trick in a crucial game. Until now, we can only talk about England’s 1966 World Cup win and Hurst’s hat-trick in the final.”

Gascoigne also expressed his support for England manager Gareth Southgate: “He has the courage to use young players. I met Gazza at Wembley and he said he really enjoys his job as England manager. It takes a lot of courage to lead England. All previous managers have been criticized.”

Gascoigne went on to praise Bellingham: “He scored a vital goal against Serbia. His ability to create chances reminds me of Robson. I’ve seen him play for England and Real Madrid, he is exceptional and will become a great footballer.”

Gascoigne then predicted England’s European Championship journey: “The next game against Denmark will be tight, the score will probably be 1-1, then we will beat Slovenia 2-0. In the knockout stages, Italy, France, Germany and Spain will all be tough opponents.”
