On Tuesday, France national team manager Didier Deschamps revealed in a video released by the French Football Federation that forward Kylian Mbappé, despite feeling better on Tuesday morning, will require surgery for his broken nose. The surgery, however, will not be scheduled immediately. Deschamps said they will closely monitor Mbappé’s daily recovery progress to determine when he can return to the pitch for the 2024 European Championship.
Mbappé suffered a broken nose on Monday in the opening Group D match against Austria. To this, Deschamps explained: “We are planning further checks on Wednesday to monitor his recovery. The collision was pretty serious and the medical team acted quickly to minimize the damage after the examination. Although surgery is not an immediate need, it will be necessary. Mbappé’s condition has improved this morning, we will continue to observe him and will closely monitor his health day by day.”
Additionally, Deschamps added: “We will also conduct additional tests on Wednesday to make sure we have a complete picture of his recovery.”
It is understood that Mbappé will likely miss the upcoming matches against the Netherlands and Poland, but he may still be able to return to the pitch wearing a specialized protective mask to continue his fight for France.
